On the 14th and 15th of November 2013, the Water Diplomacy Consortium (The Hague Institute for Global Justice, Clingendael Netherlands Institute of International Relations, UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, UPEACE Centre The Hague, and the Water Governance Centre), supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will organize a high level international Working Conference on Water Security and Peace.The objectives of the conference are to present and discuss the role of Water Diplomacy (negotiation, mediation and conciliation) in evidence-based cases by bringing together experts and perspectives from international, national and sub-national level. The expected outcomes of the conference are:
creation of a better understanding of capabilities of water diplomacy among water specialists and diplomats;
initiation of an international hub of experts in water diplomacy to enhance resolving water related conflicts through negotiation, mediation and conciliation;
formulation of an agenda on Water Diplomacy capability development;
publication of the conference outcomes in the The Hague Papers.
Participants will include relevant water experts, water diplomats and policy makers as well as political leaders in dealing with water-related disputes, from different levels and different organizations (governments, international organizations, NGOs), and leading scientists from various disciplines.
